Classes in international dance and drumming are offered year round, along with concerts and lectures. WorldBeat Center also features a Children’s Ethnobotany Garden. The unique organic herb, fruit, and vegetable garden honors the memory of George Washington Carver, and is dedicated to teaching young people about the role of plants in society. Gardening classes are available to schools, youth programs, individuals, and families by appointment or on Sundays at 11:30 a.m. The garden also serves the nearly 6,000 students in the 5th Grade Balboa Park Integration Program.
WorldBeat Center Gift Store proudly carries fair trade items from indigenous cultures around the world. The international selection includes drums, small musical instruments, textiles, accessories, home décor, and many seasonal gifts such as Kwanzaa kits. Purchases at WorldBeat Center Gift Store help give artisans all over world, who may otherwise be unemployed, the dignity, respect, and joy that can only come from earning a living wage.
